We are in a now in a position of where we have a strong idea as to what the narrative will be for our final music video. For a while now we have been contemplating that the narrative of the video could focus around a relationship in some way, we up until recently, where not exactly sure of how we could include this. The narrative we have chosen revolves around a male and female couple, whose relationship begins to becomes unstable when the girl announces she is going away to university. We have decided to be flexible in terms of our approach to fitting the narrative with the lyrics, as we want to avoid the monotonous nature of fitting the lyrics word for word. We plan for a lot of the narrative to fit with the lyrics, but more on an emotional level as it will have a deeper meaning to the audience.
In addition, while we feel that it will be necessary to include a variety of shots in order to convey the message we want to the audience, we see this as more of a positive because, if it is done as we intend to, we will have a far more intriguing narrative. Furthermore, by including narrative as well as performance in our video, we thought that this would give us the potential to alternate between the two parts of the video, with the breaks giving time for the audience to absorb what has happened. Another positive of choosing this form of music video was that by switching to the performance from the narrative, it will maintain the audience's intrigue as they are made to wait if they want to see how the events will unfold. Also, it could be said that given the fact that the narrative we have planned follows the structure of normal life - problem - solution, it is very much traditional in that sense of music videos featuring a relationship narrative. Here is list of how the narrative progresses to explain this further:
Equilibrium
The boy and the girl are happy together and are at a good stage in their relationship. Everything is going along very well.
Problem
The boy is shocked and upset to find out that the girl is going to go to university. He cannot understand why she want to stay
Solution
After suffering being apart, they realize that they are meant to be together as they begin to understand why they reacted that way to each other.
